Old Mill Stream Scenic Byway runs 52 miles through Hancock and Putnam counties in northwest Ohio. It follows the Blanchard River valley along what organizers call the "pathway of the pioneers." The byway takes its name from "Down by the Old Mill Stream," the 1910 hit ballad written by Findlay songwriter Tell Taylor, whose lyrics were inspired by the river itself. A public-private partnership has managed the designation since 1998, linking small villages and parks along the Blanchard to the Lincoln Highway corridor that also crosses this part of the state. The drive is understated by design, favoring quiet river scenery and small-town Ohio over any single blockbuster landmark.
