State Route 138 follows the North Umpqua River up toward the Cascade crest through a corridor packed with waterfalls, including Watson Falls and the columnar-basalt plunge of Toketee Falls. The clear, boulder-strewn North Umpqua is a legendary fly-fishing river, and the byway continues toward the rim of Crater Lake. Dense Douglas-fir forest shades much of the route.
