The Delaware River Valley Scenic Byway follows 17 miles of Route 611, Little Creek Road, and the Belvidere Highway along the Delaware River's west bank. It runs between Easton and Riverton in Northampton County. One of the roads recognized under PennDOT's scenic byway program since 2001, it stays close to the water the entire way, passing through farmland and small riverside communities rather than the more developed stretch of river closer to Philadelphia. Views open regularly across the Delaware to New Jersey's Hunterdon County hills, and the byway connects a string of historic river towns that grew up around 19th-century canal and mill traffic before the automobile era. Because it hugs a single river corridor rather than climbing into mountains, the drive is gentler and more pastoral than Pennsylvania's mountain byways, making it a good fit for a relaxed afternoon rather than a full-day mountain tour.
