The Lake Wilhelm Scenic Byway follows Creek Road through Sandy Lake and New Vernon townships in Mercer County. It traces the shoreline of the 1,680-acre Lake Wilhelm at the heart of the 2,586-acre Maurice K. Goddard State Park. It's one of roughly 15 roads Pennsylvania has designated as scenic byways since the program's creation in 1993, chosen for the working farms, open countryside, and long lake views that unfold along the drive. The lake, wetlands, and old fields inside the park support significant wildlife, and the byway is a favored spot for watching bald eagles and osprey working the water alongside more common waterfowl. Anglers and boaters use the same shoreline for fishing and paddling, and the park's campgrounds and picnic areas make it easy to turn the drive into a full afternoon rather than a quick pass-through. Compared with Pennsylvania's more dramatic mountain byways, this is a quieter, pastoral lake drive in the state's northwestern corner.
