This byway crosses the Laurel Highlands of southwestern Pennsylvania, a region of forested ridges, whitewater, and architectural landmarks. Its centerpiece is Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater, the house dramatically cantilevered over a waterfall at Bear Run, with nearby Ohiopyle State Park offering rafting on the Youghiogheny River. Mountain laurel, ski resorts, and deep gorges fill the highlands.
