Route 102, known locally as Ten Rod Road, runs 7.3 miles through hilly terrain in Exeter, Rhode Island, climbing to 560 feet in elevation. Most of the modern highway follows the alignment of the original 18th-century Ten Rod Road, and long sections are still bounded by the same stone walls laid by early settlers. The route crosses five separate valleys carrying streams that feed the Queen's River watershed, alternating between wooded high ground and low, wetter crossings. It's the highest and most rural of Rhode Island's nine designated scenic roadways, with little development to interrupt the colonial-era landscape.
