Shannock Road winds 1.7 miles through Charlestown and Richmond, Rhode Island, past marshes, woodlands, and farm fields bounded by old stone walls. Midway along the route sits Shannock Village, a well-preserved 19th-century textile mill village clustered along the Pawcatuck River, one of the few such mill communities in the area to survive largely intact. The road's short length and rural surroundings, mostly farmland and forest with little modern development, are typical of the quieter roads chosen for Rhode Island's official scenic roadways list.
