Bohicket Road Scenic Highway crosses Johns Island in South Carolina's Lowcountry, linking historic farmland to the resort gates of Kiawah and Seabrook islands. The route takes over from Main Road at its junction with Maybank Highway, then runs beneath a canopy of live oaks past working truck farms and weathered produce stands. A few miles in, a side road leads to the Angel Oak, a live oak estimated at several hundred years old with a canopy that shades roughly 17,000 square feet, one of the largest trees of its kind east of the Mississippi. Nearer the coast, Bohicket Road becomes Betsy Kerrison Parkway as it approaches the gated entrances to Kiawah and Seabrook islands. Though it carries heavy day-trip and commuter traffic to the resorts, the corridor still feels rural in stretches, with marsh glimpses, moss-hung branches, and small family farms along the shoulder. South Carolina designated the route a state scenic byway for that blend of agricultural heritage and canopy-road scenery.
