This byway runs about 100 miles along the South Carolina side of the Savannah River and its chain of large reservoirs — Hartwell, Russell, and Thurmond lakes — on the Georgia border. It passes through small towns, pine and hardwood forest, and lakeside parks popular for boating and fishing. The route links the Blue Ridge foothills with the river country of the Piedmont.
