SC-46 Scenic Highway runs from the Jasper/Beaufort county line into Bluffton, South Carolina, the westernmost leg of the May River Scenic Byway. The full highway stretches more than 17 miles between Hardeeville and Bluffton as a quieter parallel alternative to the busier US 278, and the designated scenic segment follows May River Road for roughly eight miles into town. Live oaks canopy much of the drive, with glimpses of tidal marsh opening up as the road nears the May River itself. At its eastern end, SC-46 meets State Road S-66, which continues the same byway designation on toward S-13 and the public landing at Brighton Beach, making SC-46 the first of three connected segments carrying travelers from the county line down to the water. The corridor has become a focal point for Bluffton's efforts to manage rapid growth along its historic riverfront, preserving canopy and marsh views even as development spreads along the surrounding May River Road corridor.
