This byway follows US-89 along the western and northern shores of Bear Lake, a deep natural lake straddling the Utah–Idaho line whose suspended limestone particles give it a vivid turquoise color and the nickname "the Caribbean of the Rockies." The surrounding valley is known for its summer raspberry crop, celebrated each August at Raspberry Days in Garden City. The descent from Logan Canyon delivers the classic first view of the whole lake spread out below.
