State Route 95 was completed for the nation's bicentennial in 1976, opening a remote stretch of southeastern Utah between Hanksville and Blanding. It passes Natural Bridges National Monument — home to three of the world's largest natural rock bridges — and crosses the Colorado River arm of Lake Powell at Hite. For long stretches the road runs through empty red-rock canyon country with no services at all.
