This byway climbs State Routes 14 and 148 above Cedar City to the rim of Cedar Breaks National Monument, a vast amphitheater of red, orange, and coral rock eroded into spires and ridges at over 10,000 feet. The high plateau is cool even in midsummer and bursts with wildflowers in July, while ancient bristlecone pines cling to the rim. Heavy snow closes the upper road for much of the year.
