Logan Canyon carries US-89 for roughly 40 miles from the college town of Logan up through the limestone gorge of the Bear River Range to a summit near 7,800 feet, then drops to the turquoise shoreline of Bear Lake. The Logan River runs alongside the road most of the way, past towering dolomite cliffs, dispersed campgrounds, and trailheads to spots like Tony Grove Lake and the Wind Cave. Near the top, a short walk reaches the Jardine Juniper, a gnarled tree thought to be more than 1,500 years old.
