Utah's Marble Canyon Loop is a 191-mile driving tour along Highway 89 and Arizona's Highway 89A through Vermilion Cliffs country to the Colorado River. Along the Arizona leg, 89A runs 28 miles through House Rock Valley beneath the towering Vermilion Cliffs, where California condors, once extinct in the wild, have been successfully reintroduced. The loop's signature landmark is Navajo Bridge, an 834-foot open-spandrel steel arch completed in 1929 that still carries pedestrians 467 feet above the Colorado River at Marble Canyon; a newer span built alongside it in 1995 now carries vehicle traffic, while the original remains on the National Register of Historic Places. Fourteen marked stops line the full route, including access points for The Wave's permit-lottery hike, Antelope Canyon, and Horseshoe Bend. Though split across two states, the loop reads as one continuous geological story, tracing the same red-rock canyon country from Utah's high plateaus down to the Colorado River gorge.
