Scenic Byway 12

Scenic Byway 12 runs about 122 miles between Panguitch and Torrey, one of only a few dozen roads designated an All-American Road for scenery that can't be found anywhere else. It passes the red arches of Red Canyon, the rim of Bryce Canyon, the slickrock and slot-canyon country around Escalante, and the knife-edge "Hogback," where the pavement follows a narrow ridge with the land dropping away on both sides, before climbing forested Boulder Mountain toward Capitol Reef. Much of the route crosses the Grand Staircase–Escalante region, some of the most rugged country in the lower 48.
