Vermont Route 9 crosses the southern Green Mountains between Brattleboro and Bennington, named for the wife of Revolutionary War general John Stark. The high point at Hogback Mountain is famous for its "100 Mile View" across three states, and the route passes the arts town of Wilmington and the Bennington Battle Monument. Hardwood forest makes it a strong fall-color drive.
