This National Park Service parkway runs along the Virginia bank of the Potomac River, linking George Washington's Mount Vernon estate with Old Town Alexandria, the monuments of Washington, D.C., and Great Falls upstream. It offers landscaped river views, access to the Mount Vernon Trail, and a green commuter corridor protected as parkland. The falls at the northern end churn through a rocky gorge just outside the capital.
