The Swiftwater Corridor is a Washington State Scenic and Recreational Highway in Kittitas County. It rambles along back roads from the historic coal town of Roslyn, east of Snoqualmie Pass, to Vantage on the Columbia River. The drive crosses a genuinely varied landscape — pine forest, rivers and lakes, working cattle ranches, and the jagged peaks of the Stuart Range bordering the Alpine Lakes Wilderness — that draws campers, snowmobilers, and anglers year-round. Roslyn itself, incorporated in 1889 as a coal-mining town, has kept much of its early character; the Roslyn Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, and many of its residential and commercial buildings from 1889 to 1930 still stand, including what's billed as Washington's oldest operating tavern. Beyond Roslyn, the corridor passes former logging camps and abandoned mines on its way to the open, high-desert scenery around the Columbia River at Vantage.
