West Virginia's Farm Heritage Road runs 59 miles through Monroe County farmland worked continuously since the late 1700s. Following State Routes 12, 122, and 3 and US 219, the drive passes through three distinct landscapes: the winding course of Indian Creek, gently rolling farmland plateaus, and the scenic Sweet Springs Valley tucked against Peters Mountain in the Appalachian Ridge and Valley region. Along the way, travelers reach the Indian Creek Covered Bridge, the mineral springs resort history at Salt Sulphur Springs and Sweet Springs, the town of Union, and the historic Rehoboth Church. Designated a West Virginia state scenic byway, the road preserves a working agricultural landscape shaped by generations of the same farming families, with the rolling character of the land largely unchanged since the region's earliest settlement.
