WV-150, the Highland Scenic Highway, climbs to over 4,500 feet across the Allegheny Highlands in the Monongahela National Forest, the highest major road in West Virginia. Four overlooks take in waves of forested mountains, and the route runs near the Cranberry Glades, a rare boreal bog more typical of Canada. Commercial traffic is banned, and the high road is cold and snowy well into spring.
