Rustic Road 117 is a short designated route in Waushara County, part of Wisconsin's unique Rustic Roads program, the only state system of its kind. Created in 1973 to protect lightly traveled roads with outstanding local scenery, the program covers this tree-lined route, which follows County W, Portage Street, Portage Road, and Covered Bridge Road from 26th Road to County A. The route runs alongside the Pine River and connects with the neighboring Rustic Road 48. Wildlife along the corridor includes eagles, sandhill cranes, geese, wild turkey, and deer, while several historic buildings, a town hall, a former post office, older homes, and a keystone bridge, mark the road's small-town past. Like all Wisconsin Rustic Roads, the speed limit here is capped at 45 miles per hour, keeping the drive slow and unhurried by design. It's a short but distinctive example of the kind of quiet backroad the Rustic Roads program was created specifically to preserve.
