This byway follows the Lake Superior shore of far northern Wisconsin around the Bayfield Peninsula, gateway to the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. The harbor town of Bayfield is the launch point for ferries and tours to the islands' sea caves, which freeze into spectacular ice formations in cold winters. Orchards, fishing villages, and big-lake views line the route.
